EspoCRM- SuiteCRM
SugarCRM- FatFree CRM
Odoo- Redmine
tl;dr My current recommendation is: Fat Free CRM, Suite CRM, or a custom (other) solution, in that order.
EspoCRM
Don't forget to add cron when installing!
* * * * * cd /var/www/html; /usr/bin/php -f cron.php > /dev/null 2>&1
So-so... I don't see much of a point in this app. It's free and open, but when I installed it - I didn't quite commit to using it.
Also, they upsell functionality. You'd think it's free - but it's not. The sales module will run you up hundreds of dollars per year.
SuiteCRM
It's pretty slow.
SugarCRM
Sugar CRM is no longer free.
Odoo
I tried it... It's very heavy and unpleasant to use, in my opinion. It locks you into its own rules, and you'll become odoo instead of being yourself, very quickly. I did not like at all the restrictions it placed on me, while evaluating it.
Also, it is not quite free. It pretends to be free but you'll find the majority of useful modules to be not free. Odoo is pretty cheap, but it is not free and open.
Fat Free CRM (ruby on rails)
Actually it wasn't too bad. I even used it, for organizing personal contacts.
It's written in ruby on rails, which is nice.
Redmine
I actually keep a lot of my contacts in Redmine. It kinda works out. It's simple.
A Custom Solution
I've developed a custom solution that is kind of working for me, but needs a looooot more work. Check it out!
